MAKE YOUR GARDEN A QUIET, CLEAN & SAFE ENVIRONMENT FOR YOU,
YOUR FAMILY, AND YOUR COMMUNITY!

At Yasemin Greenscapes, we provide eco-friendly, organic and professional lawn and garden care services to residential, commercial and strata properties in Vancouver.

We Are Organic Gardeners

Synthetic fertilizers and pesticides (herbicides, insecticides, fungicides) are harmful to the environment and your health – so why use them when you can enjoy better and safer results by simply going organic?

As organic gardeners, we work in harmony with nature, not against it. We create plant health through the creation of healthy soil and healthy ecosystems.

We Are Eco-Friendly Gardeners

Many of today’s lawn and garden care businesses produce a lot of noise and contribute to air pollution, mainly from power tools, such as mowers, hedgers, trimmers and leaf blowers. Noise and air pollution harm the environment and your health – so why endure the racket and put your own health at risk when you can enjoy better results by simply going green?

As eco-friendly gardeners, we travel by electric bicycle or electric car with trailers, and use both electric and manual gardening equipment to care for your garden. We occasionally use Modo The Car Co-op vehicles to pick-up and deliver heavy materials, such as soil and plants. We are not only effectively reducing our carbon footprint, but also helping you reduce yours!

Do you love your garden but just don’t seem to have the time to regularly care for it? Not to worry! We can help you prune, weed, plant and clean up your garden on a weekly or bi-weekly basis.

* GRASS CLIPPINGS:  Leaving the clippings on the lawn is known as “grasscycling” and contributes to a natural lawn system by providing essential nutrients to the soil, especially nitrogen. This helps keep yard waste out of landfills. Thatch and clippings are not the same things, and clippings do not cause thatch.

To ensure healthy lawn growth, we recommend that the following services be performed in early spring or early fall.

* DETHATCHING & CORE AERATION:

  •     Dethatching and core aeration are two very important steps in preparing your soil for amendments and overseeding.
  •     Dethatching removes any dead, undecomposed organic material from the grass. If there is excessive thatch in your lawn, it can increase pest problems by harboring large populations of disease-causing organisms and insects.
  •     Core aeration removes small cores of soil from the lawn, allowing air, water and nutrients to get to the roots more readily, and alleviates soil compaction on lawns that undergo heavy foot traffic.

** OVER-SEEDING & TOP-DRESSING:

  •    Overseeding the lawn with new grass seeds should be done immediately after aerating. This will prevent weeds from growing where the soil has been disturbed from aeration, and will also ensure a higher germination rate with seed-to-soil contact.
  •    Top-dressing your lawn is a great way to improve the quality of your soil, to help reduce lawn diseases, and to reduce the need for fertilizer. Top-dressing is the process of adding a fine layer of fertile compost to the lawn surface.

*** ENDOMYCORRHIZAL FUNGI:

  •    Endomycorrhizal fungi form symbiotic relationships with over 90% of plant species. They facilitate the exchange of nutrients (such as phosphorus and nitrogen) between the host plant and the soil by surrounding and even entering the roots of the host plant. They are essential to optimum plant health. For turf, the fungi are added right after aerating so that more of the spores get down to the roots.
Does your lawn look like a disaster zone? Are birds, skunks, raccoons or other animals digging up your lawn? If so, read on!

ABOUT THE CHAFER BEETLE:

  • The European chafer (Rhizotrogus majalis) is an introduced insect that has become a serious pest of turf in Vancouver.  The presence of grubs can make your lawn look like a disaster zone, especially between October and March, when birds, skunks, racoons and other predators dig up grasses to feed on the mature grubs.

ORGANIC TREATMENT:

  • To control a European Chafer Beetle infestation on your lawn, we offer a completely organic treatment with nematodes. Nematodes are microscopic worms that swim through the soil and attack the grubs. These biological predators are specific to the chafer and will not harm plants, people or pets.

BEST TIME FOR TREATMENT:

  • Nematodes are effective when they are applied properly and at the correct time.  They must be applied from July 1st to August 15th, when the larvae are most vulnerable.

MAINTENANCE:

  •  Your lawn will need to be watered thoroughly before application and for at least two weeks after application.
  • If you require more water than provided under the City of Vancouver’s sprinkling regulations, you will need to obtain a water exemption permit in advance of nematode application.

PRICING:

  • Price is largely dependent on lawn size.
  • We will provide a quote during your free consultation.

PREVENTION:

  • A well-maintained lawn, one that is routinely dethatched, aerated and top-dressed, is less vulnerable to chafer infestations than a neglected lawn.

Hedge Trimming

Is your hedge intruding over a public sidewalk, taking over your garden, or simply blocking too much light?  Not to worry! We can reshape and trim any hedge that as grown as tall as 13 feet.

Leaf Raking

Is your yard full of leaves? Keep doing what you love and leave the leaf raking to us!

We dispose of leaves in your trimmings bin supplied by the City of Vancouver, and if needed, in biodegradable paper bags to be collected by the city.

Compost Top-dressing / Mulching Garden Beds

Adding a layer of compost to your garden beds is one of the most beneficial landscape upgrades that can be done in any garden.

The many benefits of top-dressing or mulching with compost include improved soil structure and water-holding capacity, increased soil organic matter, microbial activity, nutrient availability and plant growth, improved weed suppression and erosion control, as well as improved aesthetics.

Prior to top-dressing or mulching all garden beds, we complete extensive bed preparation that includes weed removal and edging of all bed edges.

Disposal of Yard Waste

We offer several options for yard waste disposal, which will be fully explained during the estimate process.
